Welcome December-blog

Welcome, December this is the month of the miracles and great joy.

‘Well go home, take the antibiotic and stay in bed my doctor advised and I did as he was told.’ When you are sick you are feeling guilty about it. I can’t shake the illness standing up. However in a sense time is more time to think.

For years now, I wanted to be older, and now  I am.

Since we’ve tried to understand time nature. Why/ In order to control time. But time is a mystery, an extravagant gift, not controlled. And it doesn’t matter what kind of time it is  Greenwich, daylight saving, eastern, central or Pacific. For centuries, poets, mystics, philosophers, artists have pondered time’s enigma.  Henry  Van Dyke wrote:

“Time is Too slow for those who Wait,

Too swift for those who Fear,

Too long for those who Grieve,

Too short for those who Rejoice,

But for those who Love,

Time is not.”

Since the Middle Ages, painters remind us that in fact, we need to hurry because we host only fleetingly in this world. Sixteenth-century master of Strasbourg Hans Baldung Grien of obsessive, cruel showed passion play, which was doing time with us. In the image of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, a young woman with full shapes arranged long, golden hair.

Mirror suggests her dry old man with the withered breasts and incomplete dentition. Transparent loincloth girl with one hand upholds cupid, on the other zombie grabs her holding above its overhead hourglass. Busy another woman had not even noticed lurking carcasses.

In painting clocks usually play a deterrent role – signaled their badness worldly affairs, telling them to turn around and ponder the prospect of eternity. It is no coincidence clock hanging over the head of a young woman: alluring, soft body passes as soon as possible – still living from it will be skin and bones. The clock is the enemy of man in his bodily existence: opposed satisfaction, which provides the senses, especially sight and touch. You can even recognize that the clock symbolically undermines the essence of painting. After all, painters perpetuate what temporary and fragile, drawing inspiration from visible matter. Vanitas, or “vanity” – as determined by the type of performances, in which a set of symbolic objects reminiscent of the fragility of life and undivided dominion of death.philippe-de-champangne1

The seventeenth-century French artist Philippe de Champaigne brought to the essence of an hourglass theme: sand clock showed on the stone windowsill next to the tulip and the skull. Masterfully captures the reflections in the water-filled vase, polished bone and glass: the transience of life of these characters cause chills. On the other hand, still, life champion Sebastian Stoskopff next to the skull, on heavy volume of the Bible, set the sundial. This precision instrument is a sign of finitude. But he could still carry more cheerful associations: does not require tuning, used to regulate the mechanical clocks, it was also a symbol of eternity.

German mathematician, clockmaker, and astronomer Nicholas Kratzer developed multiple sundials: the portrait of Hans Holbein the scholar presents his elaborate invention. The same device placed at a German painter of enigmatic “Ambassadors”. The clock is here, however, two different times, and in addition, is set to the latitude of North Africa, rather than London, where he posed models suggested Could artist shortcomings of knowledge resulting from the restrictions of human nature?

Nicholas Kratzer worked at the court of King Henry VIII, who ordered luxuriously finished clocks.

Renaissance aristocracy prided itself in having complicated instruments: exposed them as a sign of scientific interest and high culture. But timers on paintings not only served to count hours of death.

The first clock in the history of Western painting showed the Sienese town hall, Ambrogio Lorenzetti. On the fresco “Allegory of good governance” of 1338 years wields enormous hourglass Temperantia – the personification of the virtues of moderation.

Interestingly, this attribute is derived from an erroneous etymology which Temperantia associated with the word “tempus” (time). When in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, this allegorical figure was brought to France, on the way mentioned hourglass on a mechanical clock. As cogs need for regulation, so man must inhibit impulses. But though the clock is associated today with precision, medieval timers were sometimes very imperfect. Just as if hurrying to come late to watch a weak man must constantly morally wind up, be careful not to fall out of rhythm. In the illustration to “Epitre d’Othe,” Christine de Pisan (1454) with the assistance of the four cardinal virtues Temperantia complicated set pendulum clock: like their behaviour should tune sinners. At the end of the Middle Ages, together with buoyant, growth of cities and the revival of trade, increasingly they were aware that time is money. To date, night planned out according to the seasons of prayer, which incited the bells.

In the South, they beat as indicated by sundials, and the North fulfil the same function Water and sand hourglass. These not very accurate instruments indicated local time: interval between successive divine services was shorter in winter, and lengthen the summer.

Today – “I do not have time” is one of the most commonly spoken by our sentences. “People do not have time for life” I’m late, I’m late –  -” He’d breathe out the words, shoving the watch back into his pocket before taking off of its waistcoat-pocket, and looked at…. 🙂
