The last day of October

The earth slowly begins to die around us. This is a good time for us to look at wrapping up the old and preparing for the new in our lives. Think about the things you did in the last twelve months. Have you left anything unresolved? If so, now is the time to wrap things up. Once you’ve gotten all that unfinished stuff cleared away, and out of your life, then you can begin looking towards the next year.

Halloween is traditionally the night for fortune- telling. A delicious way to do  this is with Victorian sponge cake.

Make a space cake and insert  specially made silver charms  into batter after  it is poured into the pan. When the cake  is cut, the charms  will reveal  the future:

the  bell is  a wedding,

the thimble blessed the owner,

the wishbone  grants  one wish,

the coin promised prosperity,

the horseshoe ensures good luck,

and the button domestic bliss.

and select  the perfect  jack o’latern, dress up  for Halloween

The Witches’ New Year: Sunset on Samhain is beginning. The old year has passed, the harvest has been gathered, cattle and sheep have been brought in from the fields, and the leaves have fallen from the trees.

B is for broomsticks witches to fly,
O is outrageous spooks that go by,
O is for orange pumpkins so bright,
These are the signs of a Halloween night.
